How to follow up with personal training leads.

By Jason Odell, founder of RiseForIt

Reply to a new lead the same day, ideally within the hour, and ask a second question instead of sending your price. Most leads don't die from a bad pitch; they die waiting. Follow up after every step they take, and book the call once they've told you what they want.

The first reply

Thank them, then ask one question about them: what made them reach out today? Don't send a price list. The fortune is in the follow-up, and the follow-up starts with a question.

The follow-up rhythm

  • Same day: reply, ask what made them reach out.
  • Next day: if they answered, ask what they've tried and where they want to be. If not, one short nudge.
  • Day three: offer a time for a call.
  • After every step they take with your free tool: check in and ask how it went.
  • Never send message one and stop. Most trainers never send message two.

Why leads go flaky

A form lead from a cheap ad never heard of you. A lead who watched you fix their problem already trusts you. Better content makes better leads; faster replies keep them.

Common questions

How many times should I follow up?

Until they say no or go quiet after several real attempts. Each message should give them something, not just ask.

Should I call or DM?

Reply where they reached out, then move to a call once they've said what they want.
